CLGF has made alliance with the South African Local Government Associations (SALGA) to create governmental transformations in South Africa and delivering democratic governance towards the people. This project targets seven South African municipalities to enhance their government structures and policies to deliver the services that the people deserve. This also aims in promoting responsible practices to improve the delivery of public services and enhancing the situations of the locals.

SALGA is mandated by the new South African Constitution to provide assistance in the wholesale transformation of local government in South Africa under the country’s first democratically elected government. It has a unique focus on developmental service delivery and plays a vital role in various areas associated to the transformation of local government and as a national representative of the sectors of the local government and their employees.

CLGF conducts forums, researches, documentations and other projects within the South African borders to achieve its goals. Aside from that, it also monitors and assists in local elections to check for frauds and irregularities that may impede the implementation of good governance programs. The events, conferences, projects and programs of CLGF in South Africa helps the local governments in developing good democratic values which are essential to quality and reliable public service.

CLGF is a global local government association similar to the United Cities and Local Governments, for local authorities in all member of the Commonwealth of Nations. Its headquarters are located in London, United Kingdom and has a membership of over 40 Commonwealth countries.
